CARBONDALE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Sixteen New Covid-19 Positive In Jackson Country

Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

Jackson County Health Department was notified in the past 24 hours of sixteen Jackson County residents confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. The individuals are as follows:

• Female – One under 10, one in her twenties, one in her thirties, one in her fifties, one in her eighties, and one in her nineties

• Male – One under 10, two preteen/teen, two in their twenties, two in their forties, two in their sixties, and one in his eighties.

All acquired the disease through close contact with a known case, or through transmission in the community (i.e., unable to trace back to a known source). They are being placed in isolation.

To date there have been 276 laboratory confirmed cases in Jackson County, including ten deaths related to the disease. Four additional individuals were released from isolation in accordance with CDC guidelines, bringing the total released to date to 194 individuals. Seventy-two active cases are currently being managed.

COVID-19 shares many symptoms with more common respiratory diseases. If you have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, call your health care provider for further guidance. Three providers are conducting testing of eligible individuals in Jackson County :

• Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) – Call 1-844-988-7800

• SIU Center for Family Medicine – Call 618-536-6621

The Southern Illinois Region moved to Phase 3 in the Restore Illinois plan today. Jackson County Health Department recommends that businesses and organizations follow the guidance to help reduce the risk of their employees, customers and clients of contracting COVID-19. The “Phase 3 Guidelines for Reopening Business and Returning People to Work Safely” can be found at www2.illinois.gov/dceo. There are common guidelines listed for all types of businesses, plus industry specific guidance.
