CARBONDALE NON-BARGAINING UNIT EMPLOYEES PERSONNEL BOARD: Virtual Memorial Day Service In Lieu Of In-Person Program

Document

Carbondale Non-Bargaining Unit Employees Personnel Board recently issued the following announcement.

The City of Carbondale’s annual Memorial Day Service will look different this year. Instead of an in-person ceremony at the historic Woodlawn Cemetery, the City is producing a virtual ceremony honoring the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation.

In viewing this video, viewers will be welcomed by Mayor Mike Henry and Senator Dick Durbin will read General Order #11. The video will also show the decoration of graves and markers by the Carbondale Police Department Honor Guard.

The Virtual Memorial Day Service will be released Monday, May 25, at 10:00 a.m. on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. The service will also play on loop on Mediacom Channel 16.

While the cancellation of the live event was discouraging, we believe offering this virtual service is in the best interest of our community’s health and continues the annual tradition that was started more than 150 years ago.

“Carbondale prides itself on providing its visitors, students, businesses and residents with a unique mix of edge and ease. It’s a cultural town, yet free of pretense, embracing the great outdoors as readily as urban sophistication. Here, we are open to new ideas, experiences and cultures, so you are encouraged to both express yourself and be yourself, in all ways. That’s Carbondale…All Ways Open… for family, fun, business, new ideas and a bright tomorrow.”
