Illinois state Rep.Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) has taken to social media to voice her displeasure with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ decision to cancel events at state sites, particularly hunting and fishing, in accordance with COVID-19 closures.
Bryant, who serves the 115th District and is running of state senate, supports the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that gives the “right of the people to keep and bear arms", according to her website.
On March 15, Illinois closed fish and wildlife areas, state parks, recreational areas and historic sites because of COVID-19.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources Director Colleen Callahan in a press release said, “Our current administrative rules prohibit the issuance of refunds or transfer of permits. We understand the problems these stipulations create for our sportsmen and women and are reviewing all possible solutions.”
Bryant said in a post March 28 on Facebook that she is trying to support President Donald Trump and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker while they're working through the COVID-19 crisis because times are difficult.
“However, this letter from IDNR is infuriating!” Bryant said in regards to Callahan’s press release that Bryant posted on Facebook. “This state is not one size fits all. No excuse not to allow people to hunt and fish on IDNR lands. Worse yet, ‘no mechanism,’ to return their permit money? Seriously?? LET PEOPLE HUNT and FISH!!!!”
Sworn in January 2015 into her first term as state representative, Bryant is running for state senator in the 58th District, according to her website.
