AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS: Beauty Guide for Spring

Rew

African American Museum of Southern Illinois recently issued the following announcement.

Have the winter blues been keeping you indoors, trapped underneath piles of blankets and hoodies? Well, it’s time to wash your face and grab your makeup bag, because spring has arrived and that means getting back out there into the world! To look your best for the new season, here’s a beauty guide of this year’s trends and how to prepare for all that spring has to offer.

Sun Protection is #1

You had to know this was coming. No matter what season it is, your first priority should be to protect yourself from UV rays. You can debate the pros and cons of a tan once summer comes, but during spring, your face is what will be impacted the most and that’s definitely a place you don’t want to see aged by the sun. Think about your skincare routine and decide which product or products should provide UV protection. If you’re a minimalist, you might need a sunscreen specifically for your face. If you tend to get all dolled up before going out, choose a primer or foundation (or both) that offers at least SPF 15.

Clean Skincare

This is a term that has been making its way around the beauty world in the past year or so. Many brands are making the push to offer products that are effective as well as safe. Using ingredients that take advantage of more plant-based benefits and moving away from synthetic formulas can make a real difference, particularly for those with sensitive skin. While regulations are needed to protect consumers from companies that aren’t entirely honest about their products, you can absolutely find beauty brands out there that have been tried and tested.

Play with Colors

There’s no doubt that spring means color. Think of all the gorgeous flowers that come out to play, and then think of yourself as one of them. Spring makeup is all about leaving the dull greys, browns, and neutral colors behind. Blue eyeshadow is the top choice, but a dash of any color will do. You can also play around with adornments like face gems and stickers if you really want to have fun with your look.

Think Natural

We did just say to play with color, but remember that eyeshadow doesn’t change who you are. Your beauty routine should be about becoming more yourself, not less. You don’t have to have a list of 20 products you use routinely or spend an hour getting ready (but if that’s how you express yourself, keep it up)! Pick out your favorite features and make those stand out loud and proud. Not only is a minimal routine better for your skin, it can also help you gain confidence in your natural beauty.

Spring is when we reawaken, and our beauty routine should reflect that. Make it fresh, make it happy, and make it you.
