Jackson County Finance and Administration Committee met Feb. 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Call to Order (5:00 PM)

Members Present: Calandro, D. Bost, Erbes and Peterson

Members Absent: Comparato, Nehring and Rendleman

Also present: Tamiko Mueller, Mary Beth Varner, Liz Hunter, Josh Barringer, Cleta Shirley, Jennifer Lindsey, Kenton Schafer, Bart Hagston

Approval of Minutes

I. 20-4749 January 13, 2020 Minutes

A motion was made by Peterson, seconded by Calandro, to approve the January 13, 2020 minutes as presented. The motion carried by unanimous vote.

II. 20-4750 Work Comp Update

It was noted that 2019 had fewer work comp claims than 2018. This was due in large part to the purchase of power lift equipment for the ambulance department. Peterson commented on fewer claims versus previous year. Mueller agreed and consensus was that the County has moved in the right direction. D. Bost asked about the total money in reserve set aside for bonds.

III. 20-4751 Hope Trust Health Insurance Payment in the amount of $275,673.00

A motion was made by Peterson, seconded by Calandro, to approve the Hope Trust Health Insurance payment in the amount of $275,673.00. The motion carried by unanimous vote.

IV. 20-4752 Hope Trust Dental Vision Payment in the amount of $1087.75

A motion was made by Peterson, seconded by Calandro, to approve the Hope Trust Dental Vision Payment in the amount of $1087.75. The motion carried by unanimous vote.

V. 20-4753 Health Insurance Task Force

Erbes noted that the meeting held on the last Thursday in January with the Snedeker Risk Management group was informative. Erbes also relayed that there is a standing meeting on the last Thursday of the month through the month of May at 4:30pm for those who would like to attend. Mueller stated that the meetings were productive and informative. Mueller also suggested for everyone to save receipts to ensure easier processing of bills Finance

VI. 20-4754 Payment of County Monthly Claims

Mueller question a claim in the amount of $42,901.07 which is the yearly bill for new servers.

A motion was made by Peterson, seconded by Calandro, to approve payment of County Monthly Claims in the amount of $371,135.66. The motion carried by unanimous vote.

VII. 20-4755 Payment of Board Member Travel Expenses

This item is moved to the full board.

VIII. 20-4756 Delinquent tax resolution 2020-05 to 2020-29

A motion was made by D. Bost, seconded by Calandro, to approve Delinquent tax resolutions 2020-05 to 2020-29. The motion carried by unanimous vote.

IX. 20-4757 BS & A Training

Hunter suggested a training initiative for BS & A. The County Administrator discussed what the training would involve and how the budget would potentially work to pay for the training. Mueller agreed with the plan and noted that each department would benefit from the training. Erbes stated that the issue would be presented at the full board once all information was gathered.

X. 20-4758 Funding for Animal Control Officer

Erbes moved this item to March

XI. 20-4759 Budget Discussion

Erbes suggested that it was time to begin discussions on next years budget. He also mentioned that there be discussion with department heads to work within their current budgets. D Bost asked about our exposure with the Grand Tower Power Plant. There was no update on the progress. Mueller agreed that the committee begin thinking about some of the bigger issues facing the county as well as the smaller ones.
