Jackson 4-H Club recently issued the following announcement.

The Headwaters Invasive Plant Partnership (HIPP) is offering a volunteer training opportunity on invasive management/control on Saturday, January 25 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the University of Illinois Extension Office in Champaign (801 Country Fair Dr. Champaign, IL 61821).

This training will satisfy the requirements of the Illinois Pesticide Act Section 250.22 - Special Application of Herbicide to Control Invasive Plants on Public Land. It will also qualify for 3 hours of continuing education.

In addition to the certification presentation, we also have two additional presenters;

Chris Evans, Forestry and Extension Research Specialist at the U of I presenting recent research on control methods for garlic mustard, Japanese stiltgrass, and bush honeysuckle.

Nick Seaton, the Project Coordinator for the River to River Cooperative Weed Management Area (CWMA) in southern Illinois, presenting the results of their new invasive species drone surveys.

Past participants typically utilize cut-stump treatments of invasive woody plants, but multiple techniques will be covered. Volunteers will become comfortable identifying locally problematic invasive plants. Volunteers will also learn more about forest management and how to explain the value to property owners. There will be time for questions and answers at the end of the presentation.

This seminar is free of charge. Anyone interested in invasive plant management is invited to attend. Only those over 18 years of age are eligible for certification to spray herbicide.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend

Event Date(s): January 25, 2020 County Champaign
