Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Oct. 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 met at a regular Board meeting held on October 17, 2019 with Closed Session beginning at 6:31 p.m. and the regular meeting beginning at 7:08 p.m. at the Unit Office, 200 E. 12th Street, Johnston City, IL. President Chris Cullum called the meeting to order and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

ROLL CALL

Present: Chad Barras, Jimmy Dean, John Etherton, Patti Martin, Greg Smiley, Keven Stroud, and Chris Cullum

Absent: None

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following:

A. Approval of Regular and Closed Session Minutes of the 9/19/19 special meeting, the Regular and Closed Session Minutes of the 9/19/19 Regular Meeting, and the Regular and Closed Session Minutes of the 10/4/19 special meeting,

B. Approval of Treasurer’s Report

C. Approval of Bills for Payment

Voting Aye: Barras, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Abstaining: Dean

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Greg Smiley to approve the Williamson County Enterprise Zone Agreement as presented.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by John Etherton and seconded by Keven Stroud to set the regular November Board meeting on November 18, 2019.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Keven Stroud to adopt the resolution regarding the estimated amounts necessary to be levied for FY20.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum Motion Carried.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Chad Barras to set November 18, 2019 as the date for the Truth in Taxation Hearing.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum Motion Carried.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by John Etherton to approve the Southern Illinois Network for Future Teachers/Educators Rising Club.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum Motion Carried.

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the Therapy Dog Pilot Program as presented.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum Motion Carried.

Motion made by John Etherton and seconded by Patti Martin to approve the overnight trip for the FFA to Indianapolis, IN on October 31-November 1, 2019, the out of state trip for HOSA to St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN on November 25, 2019, and the out of state trip for HOSA to Shriner’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO on March 3, 2020.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum Motion Carried.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by John Etherton to appoint Chris Cullum as the delegate to the IASB Delegate Assembly at the Joint Annual Conference.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, and Stroud Abstaining: Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Greg Smiley to accept the resignation of Jennifer Willis as the Washington Middle School Parent Liaison effective September 25, 2019.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum Motion Carried.

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Patti Martin to employ Tyler Hatton as the In- School Suspension (ISS) Supervisor.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum Motion Carried.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that a meeting was held to review the District’s Local Wellness Policy.

Motion made Greg Smiley and seconded by Keven Stroud to adjourn the meeting at 7:44 p.m. Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Etherton, Martin, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.
