Desoto Consolidated School District 86 Board met Sept. 23.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education meeting was called to order by President Paul Copeland at 7:01 p.m. with the following members present:

Chaundy           Galloway          Smith

Copeland          Martin              Waterman

Member(s) absent: Shackleton

Motion made by Tommie Smith, seconded by Fern Martin, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.

Motion made by Rick Galloway, seconded by Tommie Smith, to approve the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting on August 26, 2019, as presented. Motion carried.

Motion made by Rick Galloway, seconded by Jalen Chaundy, to authorize the payment of bills as presented. Roll call vote:

Motion carried.

Motion made by Rick Galloway, seconded by Paul Waterman, to approve the Treasurer’s Report as presented. Roll call vote:

Motion made by Rick Galloway, seconded by Jalen Chaundy, to adopt the FY 2020 DeSoto CCSD #86 District Budget. Roll call vote:

Motion carried.

Public Comment: Emmalyn Lipe was present to discuss her opposition to a movie being shown to 7th graders in history class. She requested to be on the October board agenda.

Motion made by Rick Galloway, seconded by Paul Waterman, to enter into closed session at 7:25 p.m. to discuss personnel. Roll call vote:

Motion carried.

Matt Shackleton entered the meeting at 7:33 p.m.

Motion made by Rick Galloway, seconded by Jalen Chaundy, to come out of closed session at 7:34 p.m. Roll call vote:

Motion carried.

No action was taken in closed session.

Motion made by Rick Galloway, seconded by Fern Martin, to approve maternity leave for aide, Nichole Tripp effective September 17, 2019. Roll call vote:

Motion made by Jalen Chaundy, seconded by Rick Galloway, to approve Elvanus Watts as boys’ basketball coach for the 2019-2020 season. Roll call vote:

Motion made by Rick Galloway, seconded by Paul Waterman, to review and approve Board Policy 7:180 Prevention of and Response to Bullying, Intimidation, and Harassment. Motion carried.

The board discussed the possibility of getting a school therapy/emotional support dog.

Motion made by Rick Galloway, seconded by Paul Waterman, to adjourn the meeting at 7:51 p.m. Motion carried.
