Village of DeSoto Board of Trustees met July 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President John Evans called the first regular meeting of the De Soto Village Board of Trustees to order at 7:00 P.M. Village Clerk Paula Parks was present to record the minutes.

Present: Tony Rushing            Paulette Johnson

              John Evans               Eric Schuler

Absent: Brian Gleason            Jennifer Morgan

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Paulette Johnson, to dispense with the reading of the minutes and to approve them. Motion carried.

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Eric Schuler, to approve the June expense report. Motion carried.

Motion made by Paulette Johnson, seconded by Tony Rushing, to pay the list of bills. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

Trustee Paulette Johnson distributed for board members’ review a copy of the ordinance passed by Elkville City Council regulating rental property. A Public Safety Committee meeting will be scheduled to discuss the issue.

Motion made by Eric Schuler, seconded by Tony Rushing, to renew the annual agreement with the De Soto Township Fire Protection District for utilities reimbursement and maintenance. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

Motion made by Paulette Johnson, seconded by Tony Rushing, to renew the annual agreement with Ronald Bandy for use of his property for parking at the park. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

Motion made by Paulette Johnson, seconded by Cristy Desormeaux, to hire Nathaniel White to cut down the dead tree at the park and grind the stump for $50.00. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

Trustee Paulette Johnson read a letter from Judy Church thanking Officer Eric Howard for his help, compassion and humanity on a call concerning her mother.

Trustee Johnson asked on behalf of Jennifer Morgan if the De Soto Little League could put a sign at the four-way intersection thanking the sponsors for their support of the Little League. The Board agreed to the request.

Trustee Johnson reported that the De Soto Little League is interested in putting a flower bed at the foul ball pole on the first base line of the small diamond in memory of Cheryl True. Trustee Johnson told Mrs. Morgan to develop a definite plan for the flower bed and bring it to the board.

Trustee Desormeaux thanked the street employees for the tree clean up after the storm. Eric Schuler commended them as well.

Motion made by Cristy Desormeaux, seconded by Tony Rushing, to pass Ordinance No. 2019-3 Annual Appropriation Ordinance making appropriation for all corporate purposes for the fiscal year beginning May 1, 2019 and ending April 30, 2020. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

Motion made Cristy Desormeaux, seconded by Erich Schuler, to pass Supplemental Resolution No. 2019-5 appropriating $11,000.00 of Motor Fuel Tax funds for sidewalk removal and replacement. Upon roll call vote: Tony Rushing – Yes; Paulette Johnson – Yes; Cristy Desormeaux – Yes; Eric Schuler – Yes. Motion carried.

Director of Public Works David Griffin noted that Employee Danny Vancil has saved the Village much money by repairing things that the Village would normally have to hire someone to repair. Board members are very appreciative of Mr. Vancil’s work.

Motion made by Tony Rushing, seconded by Eric Schuler, to adjourn the meeting at 7:50 PM. Motion carried.
