CARBONDALE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: City to Host Public Meeting to Discuss Upcoming Road Construction Project

Meeting240

Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

The City of Carbondale is currently completing plans for the reconstruction of the Chautauqua Street and McLafferty Road intersection.

This project consists of the following improvements:

Replacement of the existing 4-leg 2-way stop intersection with a 3-leg roundabout

Dedicated bicycle “bypass” lanes in each direction

Reduced cut-thru traffic on Briarwood Drive

Enhanced pedestrian access and crossings

The alignment of the proposed work will be confined to existing City Rights-of-Way, except for the southwest and southeast corners of the project area, which will require easements from Southern Illinois University.

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in late summer of 2020.

There will be an informational meeting on August 21 from 4:30-6 p.m. in Room 103 of the Carbondale Civic Center, located at 200 S. Illinois Avenue, to discuss the proposed design.

If you are unable to attend or prefer not to come to the meeting, you are encouraged to contact the City’s Engineering Division using the following methods:

Phone: Call Sean Pickford at (618) 457-3270; if he is not in the office, leave a message and he will return your call as soon as possible

U.S. Mail: Send your comments to the City of Carbondale Engineering Division at 200 S. Illinois Avenue, Carbondale, IL 62901

The City would like to receive feedback from the public about this project. All responses are important, even if you have no concerns.
