Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 students suspended 93 times in a single school year

Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 reported 93 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 93 students during the year. That equates to 8.3 percent of the 1,118 students enrolled.

Of the 17 in-school suspensions, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 17 incidents. For 16 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 76 out-of-school suspensions, 49 were given to boys and 27 were given to girls, including 36 elementary or middle schoolers and 40 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 67 incidents. There were four incidents of violence without physical injury. For 28 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
