CARBONDALE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Carbondale Community Arts Exhibit: Grandmother’s Son, Portraits of Unfortunate Assumptions

Exhibit

Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

Carbondale Community Arts is excited to announce the exhibit A Grandmother’s Son, Portraits of Unfortunate Assumptions by artist Tanya Gadbaw-Neitzke on view July 5 - July 27 at Artspace 304. The series of paintings explores a personal story stemming from the artist's own assumptions about her uncle while she was growing up, which made their relationship difficult. After her uncle passed she learned more about him and wished she had moved passed those assumptions. The work captures portraits of men who remind Gadbaw-Neitzke of her uncle through appearance or the good qualities she had missed.

View additional works from the series In Memory by Tanya Gadbaw-Neitzke at the Corridor Gallery at the Carbondale Civic Center for the month of July.

Tanya Gadbaw-Neitzke is originally from upstate New York. Currently, she is the Painting Instructor at WKCTC’s Paducah School of Art and Design and lives in Brookport, IL. Gadbaw-Neitzke received her M.F.A. degree in painting and drawing at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale IL and her B.F.A. in painting with a minor in art history from the State University of New York Potsdam. Gadbaw-Neitzke has exhibited nationally and internationally in group and solo exhibitions. Gadbaw-Neitzke has also been interviewed on both “Expressions”, a PBS production, and on 91.3 WKMS Murray State’s NPS Station podcast “Something From Nothing”.
