Carterville FD responds to 57 fires in 2017

Carterville Fire Department responded to 83 calls in 2017 - 2.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Carterville included 57 fires - 25 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 24 other fires.

In all, the department saw $582,600 in fire loss - or about $10,221 per fire.

The department also received 26 false calls.

The Carterville Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has five active employees and two retired or inactive employees, was $17,204 in debt as of March 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $391 for every fire in 2016.
