Murphysboro-pomona-Somerset responds to 49 fires in 2017

Murphysboro-pomona-Somerset responded to 75 calls in 2017 - 19 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Murphysboro-pomona-Somerset included 49 fires - 18 structure fires, four vehicle fires and 27 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,102,700 in fire loss - or about $22,504 per fire.

The department also received 25 false calls, including 13 malicious calls and 12 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related deaths.

The Murphysboro-pomona-Somerset had an annual budget of $162,250 in 2017.
