City of Carbondale Sustainability Commission met March 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

Roll Call: Mr. Smith called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m.

Members Present: Mr. Smith, Mr. Thorne, Ms. Cogie, Mr. Howe, Mr. Grant

Members Absent: Mr. Shaunak, Mr. Beck

Staff Present: Loren Polley

Others Present: Sarah Heyer from KCB

Minutes: Mr. Thorne set a motion for approval of February 15th, 2018, minutes, 2nd by Mr. Howe, all in favor.

2. Communications:

Review of the current Status Report of the Former Koppers Wood-Treating Site. Updates should be posted on website. Current reports should be sent to the sustainability email as well.

Old Business: Find status on Polystyrene Foam and plastic bag ban. Relook at Operating

Papers and redistribute. Come up with a requirement for “Green Spot” award for businesses not using Polystyrene Foam.

New Business: Subcommittees will meet on the first Thursday of the month. Location will vary. Develop a criteria for “Green Spot” award. Vacant store front views were mentioned. Research showed that a larger population is needed to utilize converting waste plastic to fuel.
