JOHN A. LOGAN COLLEGE: Rendleman Honored with ICCTA Meritorious Service Award

Tt

John A. Logan College recently issued the following announcement.

Jacob “Jake” Rendleman was honored this month with one of the highest honors bestowed by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA).

Rendleman was awarded the ICCTA’s Meritorious Service Award. The award is presented to persons who have made significant contributions to the ICCTA, the Illinois system, or an individual member college.

Rendleman has done all three. He has made significant contributions to the ICCTA while serving as a member of the Illinois Community College Board for 12 years and as a member of the John A. Logan College Board of Trustees since 1997.

The award was presented to Rendleman June 1 at the Wyndham City Center Hotel in Springfield during the ICCTA award banquet with 250 persons in attendance.

“We are proud to recognize Jake Rendleman for 12 years of accomplishment and distinction as the first trustee member of the Illinois Community College Board,” said ICCTA past president Linda Liddell. “We appreciate all the good work that you have done to help ICCB, ICCTA, and our amazing community colleges.”

Rendleman, a Carterville resident, made Illinois history in 2005 when lawmakers passed legislation that allowed a sitting college trustee member to be appointed to the Illinois Community College Board. Rendleman was the first to be chosen.

Rendleman is respected throughout the state for his service to the ICCB.

“An ICCB without Jake Rendleman? He’s made such great contributions to the state for so long now, who could have imagined this?” said Geoffrey Obrzut, who retired from the ICCB in 2013 after more than a decade as its CEO. “Jake was a major contributor, make no mistake about it. I can think of no board member who worked harder.”

Rendleman will continue to serve on the John A. Logan College Board of Trustees. He is a past president of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association. He has also been presented with numerous awards for his service including the Ray Harstein Trustee Achievement Award.
