JOHN A. LOGAN COLLEGE: Smithpeters Elected to NJCAA Board of Directors

Kk

John A. Logan College recently issued the following announcement.

Kyle Smithpeters, entering his seventh season as head basketball coach at John A. Logan College, has been elected to the NJCAA Board of Directors.

Smithpeters, 139-52 with five straight seasons of 20 or more wins, will serve as Region 24 Men’s Director. He will succeed Rod Lovett of Parkland College in Champaign. “Rod has done a great job for many years but is retiring at Parkland and will take a position in the NJCAA national office, Smithpeters said.”

“I just want to follow Rod’s initiatives and see how everything works. I was elected by the Region 24 athletic directors after being nominated by one of the head baseball coaches. I would have never considered taking on the added responsibilities if I didn’t have such a solid coaching staff.” Logan assistants include T.J. Cox, Charlie Jones and Nate Richards.

As men’s director of Region 24 Smithpeters will be assisted by Kevin Bolwers, baseball coach at Lincoln Trail. Sue Sinclair of Illinois Central is women’s director in Region 24.

Region 24 includes over 20 schools in the lower portion of Illinois. Men’s sports are basketball, baseball, soccer and golf. “My job will be to help the schools and athletes in their dealings with the NJCAA, Smithpeters said. “Region 24 is considered one of the top regions in the nation and I intend to continue the tradition.”
