Analysis: Murphysboro pays $6.09 for every $1 pensioners contribute to Murphysboro Firefighters Pension Fund

Taxpayers contributed 85.9 percent of the $370,849 the Murphysboro Firefighters Pension Fund brought in last year, or $6.09 for every $1 from pension members, according to a Carbondale Reporter analysis of the latest data reported to the Illinois Department of Insurance Pension Division.

In all, Murphysboro contributed $318,579 to the fund, which saw a $29,593 decrease in revenue over 2015. Members contributed $52,269, or 14.1 percent, in 2016. Another $1 came from other unspecified sources.
