Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 Board met Nov. 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

ROLL CALL

Present: Chad Barras, Chris Cullum, John Etherton, Lori Linton, Greg Smiley, Keven Stroud, and Mike Stallings

Absent: None

There were no public comments.

Motion made by Lori Linton and seconded by Keven Stroud to adjourn the Tax Levy Public Hearing in Accordance with the Truth in Taxation Act at 7:22 p.m.

Voting Aye: Barras, Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

President Mike Stallings called the meeting to order at 7:23 and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following:

A. Approval of Minutes of the 10/16/17 Special Meeting and the Regular and Closed Session Minutes of the 10/16/17 Regular Meeting

B. Approval of Treasurer’s Report

C. Approval of Bills for Payment

D. Approve JCEA Seniority List

E. Approve Non-Certified Seniority List

Voting Aye: Barras, Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Chris Cullum and seconded by Lori Linton to approve the tax levy packet including resolutions for 2017 payable in 2018 as presented.

Voting Aye: Barras, Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Lori Linton to approve the intergovernmental agreement with Thompsonville to form a co-op for High School Boys’ Baseball.

Voting Aye: Barras, Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Chris Cullum and seconded by Chad Barras to award the bid of Travis Brown for the Washington Middle School 2nd Shift Custodial position effective Wednesday, January 3, 2018.

Voting Aye: Barras, Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

The bid of Travis Brown to the Washington Middle School 2nd Shift Custodial position created a vacancy for the High School 2nd Shift Custodial position. The High School 2nd Shift Custodial position was posted to the custodians once bids for the Washington Middle School 2nd Shift Custodial position were closed. Upon not receiving any bids from other district custodians the High School 2nd Shift Custodial position will be advertised on the district’s media pages.

Motion made by Chris Cullum and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the parental leave of absence and FMLA leave, to run concurrently, of Kaisha Cook and the medical leave of absence and FMLA leave, to run concurrently, of Monique Grizzell.

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve Terry Milt as a Volunteer High School Girls’ Basketball coach.

Voting Aye: Barras, Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Lori Linton to approve Schoolwide Plans as presented.

Voting Aye: Barras, Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Lori Linton to adjourn to Closed Session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1). at 7:54 p.m.

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Lori Linton to reconvene to Open Session at 8:52 p.m.

Motion Carried.

Mr. Mike Stallings informed the Board that he is resigning his position on the Johnston City Board of Education effective November 30, 2017. The Board will be accepting applications to fill the vacancy created by Mike Stallings’ resignation.

Motion made by Lori Linton and seconded by Chris Cullum to adjourn the meeting at 9:01 p.m.
