Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 Board met October 16.

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

The Board of Education of the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 met at a regular Board meeting held on October 16, 2017 with Closed Session beginning at 6:56 p.m. and the regular meeting beginning at 7:09 p.m. at the Unit Office, 200 E. 12th Street, Johnston City, IL. President Mike Stallings called the meeting to order and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.


Roll Call

Present:      Chris Cullum, John Etherton, Lori Linton, Greg Smiley, Keven Stroud, and Mike Stallings

Absent:        Chad Barras

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Lori Linton to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following:

     A. Approval of the Regular and Closed Session minutes for the September 18, 2017 regular meeting;

     B. Approval of the Treasurer’s Report;

     C. Approval of the Bills for Payment;

Voting Aye: Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Chris Cullum and seconded by Keven Stroud to set the date for the regular November Board meeting on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

Voting Aye: Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Lori Linton and seconded by Keven Stroud to adopt the resolution regarding

the estimated amounts necessary to be levied for FY18 and to set November 13, 2017 as the

date for the Truth in Taxation Hearing.

Voting Aye: Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the out of state/overnight trip for the High School FFA to the National Conference in Indianapolis, IN on October 25, 2017 through October 27, 2017 with Brenda Cullum as a chaperone in lieu of Channa Cockburn.

Voting Aye: Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Abstaining: Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Keven Stroud to appoint Chris Cullum as the district’s delegate to the IASB Delegate Assembly at the Joint Annual Conference.

Voting Aye: Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Abstaining: Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Chris Cullum and seconded by Lori Linton to approve the high school baseball co-op with Thompsonville.

Voting Aye: Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Lori Linton and seconded by Chris Cullum to accept the resignation for retirement of Jim Bozzola as a Washington School 2nd shift custodian effective January 2, 2018 and to post the position.

Voting Aye: Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Keven Stroud to employ Charles McDonald as a Morning Duty Aide and a Noon Hour Aide at Jefferson School for the 2017-2018 school year.

Voting Aye: Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Chris Cullum to approve Todd Hunter as a volunteer Assistant Middle School Boys’ Basketball coach.

Voting Aye: Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Greg Smiley and Keven Stroud to approve Lenny Clark as a volunteer Assistant 5th and 6th Grade Boys’ Basketball coach.

Voting Aye: Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.

Motion made Chris Cullum and seconded by Lori Linton to adjourn the meeting at 7:31 p.m.

Voting Aye: Barras, Cullum, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Stallings

Motion Carried.
