Regular Meeting-October 17, 2017 The Board of Education Community Unit School District No. 2 Williamson County, Illinois

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

Roll Call:

Mr. Bleyer and Mr. Cook absent

Example of Educational Excellence:

Mrs. Wendy Goodman, Jefferson Elementary sh grade teacher, and four students from her 20162017 class walked the Board through a Living Museum presentation. Samuel Arnold (Steve Irwin), Jerin Smith (Henry Ford), Jada Tarantino-Linsin (Marie Curie) and Tally Cockburn (Dolly Parton) appeared in costume and presented the lives of their character. The Board appreciated and enjoyed their presentation.

Motion #1: It was moved by Brandi Bradley and seconded by John Barwick to approve the

Board Policy Review:

Motion #2: It was moved by John Barwick and seconded by Brandi Bradley to approve changes to the following board policies: 2:220-E3, 2:260, 6:80, 6:210, 7:275, and 8:70 as presented. Motion carried.

Personnel Recommendations:

Motion #3: It was moved by Courtney Womick and seconded by Brandi Bradley to approve the following personnel recommendations pending background check:

Employment:

Non-Certified-

Robin Cherim, Hall Monitor assigned to Marion High School, effective immediately.

Kelly Lopez, Noon Supervisor assigned to Longfellow Elementary, effective October 2, 2017.

Jeanine Turner, AfterCats Coordinator assigned to Longfellow Elementary, effective October 2, 2017.

Coaching-

Lauren Cacioppo, MHS Volunteer Dance Team Coach, effective immediately.

Jerry Hampleman, MHS Volunteer Freshman Boys' Basketball Coach, effective immediately.

Mike Thomas, MJHS Volunteer Boys' Basketball Coach, effective immediately.

MHS Robotics Team Assistant Coach, annual stipend of 3%.

Leave Of Absense:

Joy Neal, MHS Physical Education teacher, a maternity leave of absence beginning October 30, 2017 through January 5, 2018 using accumulated sick leave.

Retirement:

Regenna Biermann, MJHS 7th Grade Science Teacher, intent to retire at the end of the 2020-2021 school year and implementing the terms of the most recent contract agreement with regards to the TRS adjustments. Motion carried.

Annual District Audit:

Motion #4: It was moved by B.W. Bruce and seconded by Brandi Bradley to approve the annual district audit as presented. Note: The audit will be posted on the Unit #2 website. Motion carried.

Report on Shared Services or Outsourcing:

Motion #5: It was moved by B.W. Bruce and seconded by Brandi Bradley to approve the report on shared services or outsourcing as presented. Motion carried. Note: The report will be posted on the Unit #2 website.

LASB Delegate/Alternate:

Motion #6: It was moved by Brandi Bradley and seconded by Courtney Womick to approve John Barwick as the IASB Delegate for the 2017 Joint Annual Conference. Motion carried.

2017 School Report Card Update:

Amy Sanders, Assistant Superintendent, shared with the Board a few highlights as per the Unit #2 Illinois School Report Card. Illinois School Report Cards are still under embargo and will be released for the public on October 31, 2017.

Technology Report:

Continue to work with Blackboard on the new web site.

Addressing hardware and technology needs district-wide.

Weekly upload of parent data into Securly system.

Advance preparation for Chromebooks in the summer of 2018

Repair of Chromebooks from Adams and Elementary schools.

Wireless fine tuning at Jr. High.

Re-imaging various desktops at elementary schools

Updating of hardware and licensing of some servers.

Responded to 88 Tech requests.

Student workstation preparation for MHSCTE classes.

Working closely with Jr. High in regards to Chromebook use.

Coordinating with Earth Networks in regards to the Lightning Detection System at MHS.

Maintenance Report:

Lincoln, Longfellow and Washington schools have been inspected by the ROE and our local Fire Dept. for the annual inspections. Marion Jr. High, Jefferson, and MHS will be done the week of October 16". Adams will have their inspection in the spring. Jefferson boiler has been repaired and serviced. Lincoln School kitchen had the original outside air conditioning system replaced.

Superintendent Report:

Dr. Oates reported the Unit #2 Foundation Tailgate was a huge success and thanked everyone for all their hard work and support. Special thanks to the four major sponsors of the event: Silver Collections, Danny & Tracey McGee BBQ, Watermark Auto Group, and Pepsi.

Clubs/Extracurricular:

Marion High School

Band - The following students were selected to the ILMEA Concert Band: Katie Frerichs, Jack Graham, Sam Childers, Demi Groh, Claire Treece, and Julia Futch. The following students were selected for the ILMEA Jazz Band: Katie Frerichs, Jack Graham, Sam Childers and Benjamin Shore.

Clubs/Extracurricular:

Marion High School

Cross Country (Boys) - The team won the South 7 Championship for the second year in a row, Individually, John Bruce set a new course record (15:43) and won the South 7 title. Also, Michael Rutkowski, Levi Bryant and Jade chew finished in the top 10.

Golf (Boys) - Dennis Johnson shot a hole in one in the South 7 Conference tournament. This is the second hole in one in his golf career.

Golf (Boys) - Isaac Hammett and Dennis Johnson advanced to the Sectional tournament.

Golf (Girls) - Olivia Gray, Kelsey Sinks, and Chloe Thomas were selected to the South 7 All-Conference team.

Golf (Girls) - Olivia Gray and Chloe Thomas advanced to the Sectional tournament.

Football -Co-South 7 Champions and playoff eligible for the 13" straight year.

Tennis – 3th Place finish at the South Seven Conference Tournament. Nicole Szidik was runner-up medalist at the No. 2 singles flight.

Tennis - The following girls' were named to the All-Conference team: Ana Cuartas - first team, Elaina Vanderflught - second team, Nicole Szidik - second team, and Carrie Graham - honorable mention.

Tennis - Girls tennis team placed 3" at the Herrin Sectional. Ana Cuartas finished 4th overall and Elaina Vanderflught & Nicole Szidik finished 3" overall in doubles. All three girls advanced to State.

Adams School:

Softball - Regional Champions and placed 4" in the SIJHSAA Class M State Tournament. This is the first trip to State in school history.

Cross Country (Boys) - Taylor Sullivan-Dreyer finished in 2"place at the Class M State Cross Country meet.

Marion Junior High School:

Baseball - Regional Champions and placed 3" in the SIFHSAA Class L State Tournament.

Cross Country (Boys) - Boys Cross Country team placed 4" at the State meet. Top 11 finishers included Benja Stone (4" place) and Sean Hudspath (11" place). All top 7 MJHS runners had a personal best record. There were a total of 200 runners.

Clubs/Extracurricular:

Marion High School

Cross Country (Girls) - Girls Cross Country team placed 8" at the State Meet.

Top 12 finishers included Isis Williams-Wolaver (8" place) and Margaux Bruce (12" place). There were a total of 190 runners.

Softball - Regional Champions and SIJHSAA Class L State Tournament Champions.

Faculty Special Recognition

Coaching Recognition:

Cross Country - Eli Baker has won 3 straight South 7 Championships -2016

Boys Cross Country, 2017 Boys Track & Field and 2017 Boys Cross Country.

Football-Kerry Martin earned his 100" Wildcat win and has 193 total career wins.

Tennis - Carrie Watson earned her 200" career combined boys and girls win.

Treasurer's Report:

The District is 25% of the way through the fiscal year as of September 30, 2017. The Education Fund expenditures are at 22.81% and Operations and Maintenance Fund expenditures are at 25.43%. Expenditures for all district funds are at 24.81%.
