Sparky, the Carbondale Fire Department mascot that assists with fire prevention education, will get a new costume thanks to a grant from FM Global. 

The grant for $2,135 was presented Dec. 2 at Fire Station No. 2, a Carbondale Chamber of Commerce release said. The costume will help the Fire Department in its community outreach efforts focusing on fire prevention.

FM Global, which maintains offices in St. Louis and Chicago, is committed to doing its part to prevent fires and reduce property damage by presenting grants and training to fire-related organizations around the world, the release said.
