Crab Orchard Public Library District Board met August 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

Call to Order: President Russ Stoup called the board meeting to order at 6:45 pm. Russ Stoup, Evelyn Barber, Scott Barger, Cheryl Johnson and Anita Biver were present. Library Director, Erin Steinsultz was also present. Susan Rolf was absent.

Public Comment: No public comment.

Minutes of Previous Meeting: The minutes from the July board meeting were tabled for now.

Communications:

a) A letter from ILA was received.

b) Il State Library will be serving Talking Book and Braille Service (TBBS) needs.

c) A letter was received from credit cardmember service.

Report of the Director: In addition to Erin's written report, Erin informed the board that the new Children's Program Coordinator Julie Durr is working out great. Tim Moulton will take down the dead/dying trees on the library property. Steve from StraightLine Striping will stripe the parking lot for us. And to rent a small billboard that is close to the library would cost $250 per month.

Financial Report: The financial report was approved and is ready to submit for audit.

Payment of Bills:

-Barger made a motion to pay the Visa Credit Card bill of $557.07 for the purchase of books/supplies. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

-Johnson made a motion to pay Illlinois Heartland Library System $808.58 for the OCLC service fee. Barber seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:a and b) The employee handbook and the policy handbook are being tabled for now.

c) There will be a programmimg change for the older children's storytime.The Thurs. after school storytime will now be a 'creative kids' time with crafts, legos and such. The director will ask the mayor of Pittsburg about having a Tuesday afternoon book stop at Pittsburg's community center. Program coordinator Julie is looking into 'free libraries'.

d) Rick Rayburn's performance for the summer reading program was definitely kid approved. Next year's summer reading program theme will be Reading Takes You Everywhere.

e) There will be a budget hearing in September. No inquiries have been made.

f) $20,000 of inter-funds were borrowed to checking in anticipation of a shortage due to state funding delay.

g) No new member.

h) The board has been asked to consider an increase in the amount we levy to cover the cost of the tort and liability fund, the maximum being 110%.

New Business: The Illinois Public Library Annual Report (IPLAR) that is due September 1 was reviewed. A motion was made by Barger to approve the secretaries audit and certification. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Should the Creal site be called the book program or the book mobile?

The library will close August 21, 2017 due to the solar ecplise.

Closed Session: None.

Adjournment: Barber made a motion to adjourn at 7:42. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.
