The Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Bradley Elementary School District No. 61 was held on May 11, 2017, beginning at 7:00 pm at Bradley Central. President Golwitzer called the meeting to order and thereafter presided.
On roll call the following members voted present: Geraci, Golwitzer, Hasemeyer, Schubert, Trudeau and Whalen. Also present: Superintendent Goselin; Building Principals: Dave Andriano, Mike Hahs, Mark Kohl and Assistant Principal Trisha Anderson. Also present Curriculum Coordinator Rebecca Selk and Special Services Director, Lindsey Coffey.
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Board Member Golwitzer.
On the recommendation of the Superintendent, a motion was made by Schubert seconded by Trudeau to adopt all items on the Consent Agenda: 1) Approval of Regular School Board Meeting Minutes of April 13, 2017; 2) Approval of Special School Board Meeting Minutes of May 1, 2017; 3) Approval of all Committee Meeting Minutes; 4) Approval of Payroll and Accounts Payable; 5) Approve reimbursement of the Imprest Account; 6) Award bid for bulk gasoline and diesel fuel to Heritage FS Inc. for the 2017-2018 school year; 7) Approve ESSA District and School Wide Plans for 2017-2018.

Director of Special Services Report: 1) PRESCHOOL - Interviews were conducted last week for open position - One candidate offered 2" interview - declined - reposted 5/08/2017; Summer/Fall Screening - 8/08/17; 2) English Learners-79 students; working to develop a more cohesive service model for the 2017-2018 school year - Need to address servicing Central students for 2018-2019 school year; Preliminary Access scores will be available soon; 3) Special Education - 294 total students (IEPs), 18 total students (ISPs), 10 student in the referral process, Timely Meaningful Consultation Meeting was held 5/02/2017 - Detailed services to be provided to private school students; 4) SHOUT OUTS - Andy Burton-Special Education teacher at East - “Burtoni's Pizzeria” - Mr. Burton's Classroom hosted staff and parents to their “restaurant'. Students were the servers and hosts. Mr. Burton and Mrs. Gordon did a wonderful job planning and prepping for this event. The students were excited and did a great job utilizing the many social skills they have been working on all year! - Michelle LaCost - Special Education teacher (a) Central - Dear and Hard of Hearing Classroom -Ms. LaCost took 4 students (3 participants) to the "Finger Spelling Bee' at ISU. Students competed in a spelling bee using sign language. This was a wonderful Event. Students were exposed to peers with similar hearing losses - Amy Tibbetts - Special Education teacher (a) Central-Life Skills Classroom -Ms. Tibbetts students created their own jewelry making business. The students worked hard to create a base inventory and have even started taking custom orders.
Curriculum Coordinator Report: 1) SILT-Teams gathered at the end of April to review the Needs Assessment Survey. School wide Plans were written to reflect the new priorities and requirements under ESSA; 2) Professional Development - Out of District PD for April - Title I IATD Spring Conference - (1); Self Contained Special Education and Blended Pre School (1); Teach the Future K-5 Computer Science (4), I KAN SAP Institute Day (1), School Improvement Day - May 3", 2017 - MyON Summer Reading Tutorials / or Web EX Training; Collaboration / Records / Data - Class Placement; 3) Family Engagement - Parent Advisory Council / Family Engagement Committee - Meeting - April 24, 2017 to recognize the approved School Parental Involvement / Engagement Policies and School-Parent Compacts. This group also established purpose, goals and objectives for committee meetings as well as reviewed Needs Assessment for Parents. It has been formatted in a survey online for all parent and family members served by our District. It has been translated in Spanish as well with hard copies available upon request for both; Family Engagement Event - Full STEAM Ahead was held April 11", 2017 at Bradley Central. Band and Chorus students performed. Teachers demonstrated hands-on lessons to parents in both the STEM and computer labs. An art show was exhibited in the café. This night was attended by 128 parents and students as well as 15 teachers and staff; 4) CURRICULUMGo Math has been purchase with Title I funds for grades K-5. A Title I amendment was granted that $44,281.00 of this years' Title money could be used to purchase a portion of the series, as long as professional development was provided by August 31, 2017. The remaining balance of $25,458.96 will be paid with next year's Title funds. This is a three-year contract to begin in 2017-2018; Currently, Go Math has just released the new 6-8 materials. Initial proposals are being considered and reviewed for next year's implementation as well; 5) ASSESSMENT - All PARCC Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) and Dynamic Learning Maps - Alternate Assessment, (DLM-AA) assessments were submitted (closed) on April 28, 2017. In addition, paper-based, scorable and non-scorable secured materials were sent to Pearson. Chain of Custody forms and all verifiable resources will be retained in the curriculum office; STAR 360 spring benchmarks for early literacy, reading and math are in progress. All results will be reported after the test closing date, May 12, 2017. Parents will receive individual outcomes in student report cards; 6) Rt/MTSS - The Reading Rt. Team Assembled on Thursday, April 20, 2017 – RtL/MTSS guidelines were written to include: Definitions of framework/processes - Implementation - Coordinated Services - Parental Involvement - Data Tools - Team Process; Math Rt. - Due to the PARCC Data Analysis scores as well as the Star360 math scores, Math RtI will be a focus in each building next year. The administrative team have initiated talks with some staff in rearranging positions. These discussions have received favorable feedback. Title I funds will be utilized to support this initiative. RTI/MTSS Data Days: May 15th - AM - East Rtl to meet with West Rt., PM - West Rti to meet with Central RtI; May 17th - Data Day at West, May 18th - Data Day at West - May 19th - Data Day at Central.
