Illinois Heartland Library System Nominating Committee met February 17.

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

Call to Order

Susan Tulis called the meeting to order at 10:33 am

Roll Call

Members present: Susan Tulis, Monica Cameron, Scott Drone-Silvers, Betsy Mahoney,

Lacey Wright.

Others present: None; No comments from the public

Volunteer for Secretary

Susan Tulis agreed to take minutes.

Approval of Minutes

Motion by Betsy Mahoney to approve the January 5, 2017 minutes. Second by Monica

Cameron. All were in favor. Motion carried.

New Business

The committee reviewed the results of the 2017 IHLS Board Trustee nomination survey. The

board is seeking 1 academic library representative, 1 school library representative, 1 special

library representative and 2 public library trustee representatives. We are lacking in volunteers

for the public library trustee representatives.

We discussed various strategies for getting more volunteers and will investigate if it is possible

to resend the interest survey out for an additional week. Ideally, we would send it to just the

public library directors with an explanation that we are lacking volunteers for the public library

trustee slots and ask them to share with their trustees. If we are not able to send to a subgroup

of the IHLS membership, then we would resend to all with an explanation as to why the survey

was being resent.

In looking at the geographic distribution of the current board membership and those who are willing to run for 

empty slots, we are lacking in the southern part of the state. Committee members in this area were asked to 

make contact with their local libraries to see if they have ideas for who might be willing to volunteer as a public 

library trustee.

We will be reviewing the information submitted on the survey to make sure it is complete. If

not, we will contact those volunteers for complete information for the ballot. The ballot is to be

sent to the IHLS membership on March 15.
