De Soto ranked 293th in state in lottery ticket sales for July 2016

The Village of De Soto had the 293th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of July 2016 -- up 1 spot from its June ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in De Soto was $23.99 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Carbondale Reporter, De Soto generated $37,778 in net sales from its two lottery retailers in July 2016, compared to $34,488 in July 2015.

The Village of De Soto is in Jackson County, and has a population of 1,575, according to 2010 census data.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in July 2016 was $16,372.48.

De Soto's top lottery retailer is 4 Way Quikstop located at 200 N Chestnut St, De Soto, IL 62924.

4 Way Quikstop generated 56 percent of De Soto's July 2016 lottery ticket sales and 4 percent of Jackson County's sales that month, which was $556,664.50.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Jackson County in 2015 were Murphysboro, De Soto, Elkville, Grand Tower and Ava.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
