Herrin City Council purchases new police cars

The Herrin City Council met Feb. 6 to purchase new police cars.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the council:

MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY OF HERRIN COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HERRIN, ILLINOIS HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS OF CITY HALL ON FEBRUARY 6, 2017 AT 6:00 P.M.

Mayor Steve Frattinicalled the meeting to order. Shelly Huggins, City Clerk called the roll and the following were present:

STEVE FRATTINI Mayor SHELLY HUGGINS City Clerk CARL GOODWIN absent Treasurer JOHN BREWSTER City Attorney SHEILA AHLGREN Alderman Ward I DAVID SHOEMAKE Alderman Ward I DEON McGUIRE Alderman Ward II PAUL YORK Alderman Ward II STEVE MILLER Alderman Ward III SCOTT KINLEY Alderman Ward III BILL SIZEMORE Alderman Ward IV MARILYN RUPPEL Alderman Ward IV

BUSINESS:

AUTHORIZE There is a need to replace the wrecked 2014 K-9 squad car. The insurance paid $18,182.50, the cost of the

POLICE CAR new vehicle is approximately $29,825.00. All existing equipment has been removed and ready to place

PURCHASE in a new unit. The extra monies for the new car will come from the K-9 fund. In doing so, this will leave Sufficient funds in the account for other purchases. Fundraising efforts for this fund are ongoing.

Motion made by Alderman Miller, seconded by Alderman Kinley to authorize deposit of insurance monies Into K-9 fund and to purchase new unit from that fund up to $29,825.00. Alderman Shoemake, McGuire, York, Miller, Kinley, Sizemore, Ruppel and Ahlgren voted "Yea". None voted "Nay".

ADJOURN Motion made by Alderman McGuire, seconded by Alderman York to adjourn. Alderman McGuire, York,

Miller, Kinley, Sizemore, Ruppel, Ahlgren and Shoemake voted "Yea". None voted "Nay”.
