The Southern Illinois Miners have hired Dave Schaub as the team's new hitting and third-base coach, according to the team's website.
Schaub, who is entering his eighth season as a professional-baseball coach, was the hitting and third-base coach for the Kansas City T-Bones of the American Association for the last three seasons. He also was the hitting coach for the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League from 2009-12, a run that included the Crushers' title-winning season in 2009.
Schaub was the head junior-varsity and assistant varsity coach at Canton Central Catholic High School for six years in his hometown of Canton, Ohio. He also has been the Massarelli Baseball School hitting coordinator for nine years in Akron, Ohio.
"Dave has had success in our league, has worked with a wide range of players and has a depth of experience that will help our hitters each day," Miners manager Mike Pinto said on siminers.com.
