Southern Illinois Miners infielder Shane Kennedy has signed with the Minnesota Twins, according to SouthernIllinoisMiners.com.
Kennedy was named the Frontier League's Rookie of the Year this past season after winning the league's batting title, with a .363 average, which also set a team record. In addition, he was second in the league in stolen bases, with 34, and led the team with 24 doubles. His other statistics included 68 runs scored and 99 hits in 76 games.
Kennedy is the first Miner to win the league's batting title, as well as receive the Rookie of the Year Award.
After playing two seasons at Clemson University, and being named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference second team as a junior, Kennedy was in spring training with the Chicago Cubs in 2015.
With Kennedy's signing with the Twins, the Miners have had 46 former players sign with major-league organizations.
