Approval of Minutes

A motion was made by Curkin, seconded by Bishop, to approve the June 29, 2016 minutes as presented. The motion carried by unanimous vote.

II. 16-0555 Zito Franchise Renewal Request, Evaluation and Renewal Process Discussion

Mr. Caldwell from Zito Media introduced himself and confirmed that Zito Media is looking to renew their contract with the county. Mr. Brenner informed everyone that there will need to be a public hearing before any contracts are signed. The commission inquired about where the office for Zito Media is (Pennsylvania) and if a local office is required. Mr. Brenner stated that the current contract does not require a local office just a way for people to contact Zito. Mr. Caldwell said that the toll free number can be called 24/7/365. The number of subscribers listed in the information provided by Zito is only the number of video subscribers and does not include internet only subscribers. Currently, Zito offers it's customers a choice between analog and digital but by mid 2017 or early 2018 everyone will be digital. Zito customers are not required to have a contract but if they choose a two year contract their monthly bill can be a bit cheaper. Currently, Zito has three employees that service the Jackson County area. The commission discussed complaints they have received about Zito. Mr. Caldwell took notes and said he will look into them and he is going to drive through the Zito to see what else may need to be done to correct any issues customers may be having.

The State's Attorney's office will draft a new contract and send it to Zito for review.
