Anne West Lindsey Library District Board met April 22.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The monthly meeting of the Anne West Lindsey District Library of April 22, 2025 was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by President Heather Abell Castlebery and a quorum was established. In attendance were Jim Koonce, Paula Buritsch, Nancy Schmidt, Elaine Miskell, Sheri Hunter and Bill Slider. Library director, Mary Stoner and financial secretary, Jennifer Sigler attended as well.

A motion to approve the agenda was made by Bill Slider and seconded by Jim Koonce. The motion carried.

Minutes from the March 25, 2025 meeting were read and approved with a motion from Bill Slider and seconded by Jim Koonce. The motion carried.

Under Communications, Mary Stoner discussed a staff review on Google. She also relayed to the board that Trinity Roland, Teen Services Librarian, submitted her resignation with her last day being on April 30th.

The Financial Secretary’s Report was presented by financial secretary Jennifer Sigler. She reported on the library’s assets, profit and loss, and operating budget vs. actual, July 2024 through March 2025; deposit detail and check detail for the month of March 2025. A motion was made by Jim Koonce and seconded by Paula Buritsch to accept this financial report per audit. The motion carried.

In the Library Director’s Report, Mary Stoner reported the following:

(1) The local Rotary Board members were thanked for their part in providing the new desk and workstation for the library.

(2) An Ameren lineman replaced the rope on the library’s flag pole.

(3) HSG continued their work on repairing the compressors in the unit in the Genealogy Room closet.

(4) Landscapers will be working on upcoming projects; flowers will be planted in the flower pots around the building and the parking lots will be resealed next year.

(5) Dr. John finished assembling two new book carts, with one being purchased by the Friends of the AWL Library.

(6) The Friends of the Library met April 9th and brought in $672 at the book sale. They are collecting membership dues at this time. Mary Stoner is working with Patron Point to promote the Friends and thank their members for their generosity and support.

(7) All library staff renewed their CPR training.

(8) Mary Stoner prepared for and attended the SIU READY Broadband program on April 8th. They will provide the library with a $1000 stipend for hosting the event.

(9) Caleb Martin has been hired to cover the weeding and watering this Spring and Summer.

(10) New trustees Betsy McKinney and Sharon Wunderle were called and congratulated after receiving the official results from the County Clerk’s office.

(11) During the month of April, library Staff processed 208 items; 28 new library cards were issued with the total number of Anne West Lindsey District library cardholders at 6,510.

(12) The Library will sponsor the Carterville Chamber Luncheon meeting on May 7, 2025.

(13) Summer Reading registration begins May 27, 2025.

(14) Program attendance for the month of April was 1,729.

(15) At least 325 people attended the outdoor event to see the alpacas and miniature Highland cow in April.

Along with her customary Director’s report, Mary Stoner presented reports from the librarians for the month of April 2025. She also presented the Friends of Anne West Lindsey District Library Fund Statement of Activity from January 1, 2025 through March 31, 2025. The Director’s and Librarians’ reports were accepted with a motion from Elaine Miskell and seconded by Bill Slider. The motion carried.

In Unfinished Business, committee reports and requests were discussed. Also, the Intergovernmental Agreement with the Village of Colp was reviewed. In Other Business, the easement with the city was explained. Also, the PPRT was mentioned again.

Under New Business, the Anne West Lindsey Library District Budget FY 25/26 was examined line by line including revenue and expense, proposed and actual. A motion to approve the budget was made by Paula Buritsch and seconded by Bill Slider. The motion carried.

Officers were chosen for the 25/26 fiscal year. President will be Heather Abell Castlebery. Vice-President is Paula Buritsch, with Treasurer, Elaine Miskell. Nancy Schmidt will be the secretary. Jim Koonce made a motion to accept the Board of Trustee Officers as listed and was seconded by Bill Slider. The motion carried.

The next Anne West Lindsey District Library Board Meeting will be held on May 27, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.

A motion to adjourn was made by Sheri Hunter and seconded by Jim Koonce at 7:54 p.m.
