Southern Illinois University's third baseman, Matt Schark, has been named a semifinalist for the 2025 Dick Howser Trophy. The announcement was made by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the Dick Howser Trophy Committee. This prestigious award is given annually to the nation's top collegiate baseball player. Schark is one of 67 semifinalists and one of only two from the Missouri Valley Conference.

Schark's senior season with the Salukis has been remarkable. He enters the final weekend of the regular season with a .346 batting average, a .738 slugging percentage, 22 home runs, 16 doubles, and 77 RBIs. His performance this season has set new single-season records for both home runs and RBIs at Southern Illinois University after a series win over Evansville.

Nationally, Schark ranks second in both home runs and RBIs. Within his conference, he is among the top eight in several categories including batting average, hits, runs, doubles, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and sacrifice flies.

The Dick Howser Trophy is presented by The Game Headwear and honors Florida State All-American shortstop Dick Howser. Known for his excellence on the field as well as leadership qualities off it, Howser passed away from brain cancer in 1987. David Feaster, chairman of the Howser Trophy Committee stated: "This award isn't just about being the best pro prospect but honoring the player who best reflects the values Dick Howser represented."

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has been responsible for voting on this award for 28 years. Founded in 1962, it remains dedicated to promoting college baseball.
