Southern Illinois defeats SIUE in high-scoring baseball game

Southern Illinois University secured a high-scoring victory against SIUE in a baseball game at Itchy Jones Stadium. The Salukis recorded 15 hits and seven extra-base hits, leading to a 17-11 win.

The Salukis, now holding a 36-16 record, scored in six of their eight innings, with significant runs in the second and sixth innings. Matt Schark was instrumental in the team's success, achieving three hits including two home runs and a double. He drove in seven runs, tying his career high for RBIs and bringing his season total to 77.

Michael Mylott also contributed significantly with three hits and three RBIs. Gabe Petrucelli added three hits as well, while John Lemm hit his 15th home run of the season.

SIUE's performance included four home runs but fell short despite Daniel Gierer's efforts with two homers and six RBIs. Andrew Yusypchuk of Southern Illinois pitched effectively for three innings, securing his first win of the season.

The Salukis will conclude their regular season with an upcoming series against Valparaiso starting Thursday.
