Southern Illinois University's baseball team achieved a significant victory over Evansville, securing the Missouri Valley Conference series with a decisive 13-3 win at Itchy Jones Stadium. The Salukis, now boasting a record of 35-16 overall and 15-9 in conference play, demonstrated their offensive prowess by scoring eight runs in the sixth inning.

The team's performance was highlighted by Matt Schark's historic achievement. Schark, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs during the game, set a new program record for single-season home runs with his 20th homer. This accomplishment followed his previous day's performance where he tied the record with three home runs.

In addition to Schark's contribution, Michael Mylott drove in four runs, including two on a double in the sixth inning. Gabe Petrucelli also had a strong showing with two doubles and three RBIs. Other notable performances included Cecil Lofton's two-run double and Tim Simay's two walks and three runs scored.

On the pitching side, Al Holguin started for Southern Illinois, allowing three runs on four hits over five innings while striking out six batters. Gavan Wernsing earned the win in relief after delivering two shutout innings.

Evansville briefly led in the second inning but could not maintain momentum against Southern Illinois' offense. The Aces used multiple pitchers throughout the game but struggled with control issues, issuing eight walks.

Following this series win, Southern Illinois will face SIUE in their final home game of the regular season on Tuesday night at Itchy Jones Stadium.
