Southern Illinois University's Saluki basketball team is preparing for the 2025-26 season with new additions to their roster. Coach Scott Nagy has announced several new signings, each bringing various skills and experiences to the team.
Among these new recruits is Jalen Haynes, a guard from Lewisville, Texas, who comes from Sunrise Christian Academy. Haynes has garnered attention with an average of 17.1 points per game during his high school career. "Jalen comes to us from one of the top prep schools in the country. He gives us great size and athleticism at the point guard and shooting guard positions," said Coach Nagy.
Caden Hawkins, a guard from Carterville, Ill., has also joined the team. Hawkins, who played for John A. Logan, helped his former team secure a 23-10 finish in the 2024-25 season. Coach Nagy remarked, "Caden embodies all the things that are important to us. He's a great leader. He's a great point guard."
Another addition is Quel'Ron House, a sophomore guard from Jacksonville State. House had a successful freshman year, helping his previous team reach significant victories. "Quel'Ron is a great addition for us at the point guard position," stated Coach Nagy.
Daniel Pauliukonis and Luke Walsh, two high school seniors, also join the roster. Pauliukonis, from Benet Academy in Chicago, and Walsh, from Vianney High School in St. Louis, have both shown promising talent. Pauliukonis was instrumental in his team's first 4A State Championship victory, and Walsh leaves a record-setting career at his high school.
The Salukis appear optimistic with these new signings as they prepare for the upcoming season.
