Jackie Lis and McKenzie Newcomb from Southern Illinois University's softball team have been recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference with weekly awards. The announcement was made by the league on Monday.

Lis was honored as the MVC Player of the Week for the third time this season. Over Southern Illinois' four-game span against UT Martin and Murray State, the junior shortstop achieved a 7-for-10 at bat, including a home run, five RBI, four runs, and four walks. Her efforts resulted in a slugging percentage of 1.100 and an on-base percentage of .786. Lis previously earned the Player of the Week title on March 24 following games against Missouri State and Valparaiso.

Newcomb, a senior, was named Pitcher of the Week, also for the third time. In her recent appearances, she posted a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA, surrendered seven hits, allowed one run (unearned), and recorded 11 strikeouts over 10.2 innings pitched. Opponents hit just .179 against her. Newcomb was last awarded this title on April 14 after facing teams like Missouri State, Missouri, and Bradley.

Southern Illinois is set to finish their regular season at Evansville, with games commencing on Friday at 5 p.m.

According to the Missouri Valley Conference, the other weekly award winners include Rylee Spindler from Belmont as Freshman of the Week, and Mackenzie Willis, also from Belmont, as Newcomer of the Week.
