Southern Illinois University first baseman Cecil Lofton has been recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference as the Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the League's office and marks Lofton's second receipt of this honor within the season and the Salukis' fourth.
Lofton, a senior who transferred from Bryan College, made significant contributions to his team's victories, leading Southern Illinois to win a series against Illinois State and securing a road win against Southeast Missouri. Originating from Resaca, Georgia, Lofton achieved a .438 batting average, a .938 slugging percentage, and a .500 on-base percentage during the week, aiding the Salukis in achieving a 3-1 record.
In his series against the Redbirds, Lofton demonstrated remarkable prowess with a three-hit game which included seven runs batted in (RBI), nearly matching the program's single-game record. His performance also comprised two home runs and a double. Throughout the week, Lofton accumulated six runs scored, nine RBI, two walks, and four extra-base hits across four games.
Looking ahead, the Salukis are set to play against Lindenwood at Itchy Jones Stadium on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT.
