Southern Illinois University's softball team secured a 5-0 victory against UT Martin in their last non-conference game of the regular season. The game took place in Carbondale, Illinois, where Southern Illinois scored all its runs in the first inning, totaling six hits with one error throughout the game.

Pitchers Emma Gipson and Kaytee Dahlstrom jointly achieved the shutout against UT Martin over seven innings. Dahlstrom claimed the win with a record of zero runs allowed, one hit, one walk, and four strikeouts in four innings. Gipson started the game by conceding one hit, one walk, and striking out three in three scoreless innings.

The Southern Illinois lineup saw 15 different players at bat. Addi Baker contributed with a 1-for-2 performance, including two RBIs and one run. Outfielders Mikaela Coburn and Sage Grann added to the team's RBI tally.

During the bottom of the first inning, Baker’s two-run single drove home Charley Pursley and Anna Carder, leading to a score of 5-0 by the end of the inning, aided by Coburn’s and Grann’s RBI singles.

Gipson worked effectively around a two-out single in the second and a lead-off walk in the third, keeping SIU's scoreless innings intact. Dahlstrom's entry in the fourth ensured no runs were allowed, closing the game with a 5-0 win for Southern Illinois.

Looking ahead, Southern Illinois is preparing to host Murray State for a three-game home series, with events scheduled over the upcoming weekend.
