State Representative Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) held a press conference at the State Capitol to discuss his proposed legislation aimed at repealing the TRUST Act, which was enacted in 2017 and designated Illinois as a "Sanctuary State" for undocumented immigrants. Accompanied by fellow representatives C.D. Davidsmeyer and Mike Coffey, Jacobs outlined his concerns about illegal immigration and its financial impact on the state.

"The TRUST Act prohibits local law enforcement in Illinois from participating in immigration enforcement," said Rep. Jacobs. He emphasized the need for legal immigration pathways, citing Southern Illinois University – Carbondale as an example where international students and researchers contribute positively through legal means.

Jacobs criticized Governor Pritzker and other Democratic leaders for maintaining sanctuary policies that he believes compromise public safety. "The state of Illinois has spent billions giving cash and medical care to people who are in the country illegally," he stated, calling for an end to these practices.

Reflecting on past federal immigration policies, Jacobs expressed support for measures aligning with former President Trump's approach. He advocated for House Bill 1345, which seeks to repeal the TRUST Act and enable collaboration between local law enforcement and federal agents to deport undocumented immigrants involved in criminal activities.

Jacobs concluded by quoting former President Ronald Reagan: “There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he doesn’t mind who gets the credit.” He urged action against what he termed "irresponsible and dangerous Sanctuary State policies."

Representative Paul Jacobs represents Illinois’ 118th District, covering parts of Alexander, Jackson, Pulaski, Union, and Williamson Counties.
