The Southern Illinois University (SIU) women's basketball team concluded their season with a significant loss to Illinois State in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Salukis were defeated 88-48 by the No. 5 seed, marking the end of their challenging season with an overall record of 4-26 and a conference record of 2-18.
The game saw SIU struggle from the outset, trailing 47-19 at halftime. Their offensive difficulties persisted throughout, managing only 15 points in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth. Overall, SIU shot 33% from the field and achieved a 39% success rate from three-point range but committed 24 turnovers while forcing just 13.
Rebounding was another area where SIU fell short, being out-rebounded by Illinois State 34-27. The Salukis also allowed their opponents to score 44 points in the paint compared to their own tally of 12.
Despite the team's struggles, junior Gift Uchenna set a program record with her 21st double-double of the season, contributing 16 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Sophomore Kayla Cooper added nine points to SIU's efforts.
Senior Tyranny Brown ended her college basketball career on a positive note, scoring eight points on efficient shooting from both inside and beyond the arc.
