Southern Illinois guard Kennard Davis Jr. has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Most Improved Team, as announced by the League office on Tuesday. This marks the second consecutive year a Salukis player has received this honor, following Xavier Johnson's selection in the 2023-24 season.
The selection of the team was conducted by a panel consisting of newspaper beat writers and media voters from the league.
Davis has had an impressive season for Southern Illinois, standing fourth in scoring within the MVC with an average of 16.3 points per game. In addition to his scoring prowess, he ranks highly in total rebounding (148), assists (77), and steals (38) within the conference. He also leads his team in several categories including 3-point percentage at 36.9%, minutes played at 33.9 per game, and free throw percentage at 76.3%.
A native of St. Louis, Davis has scored 20 or more points in nine games this season and achieved four double-doubles.
In his freshman year, Davis participated in 32 games with ten starts, averaging 21.3 minutes and scoring 4.2 points per game during the 2023-24 season.
Other players joining Davis on the Most Improved Team include Isaiah Walker from Belmont, Cooper Schwieger from Valpo, Cam Haffner from Evansville, Jaden Daughtry from Indiana State, and Chase Walker from Illinois State who was named Captain of the team.
The MVC All-Conference honors are set to be announced on Wednesday.
