Southern Illinois University's softball team is set to compete in the San Marcos Classic this weekend. The Salukis, currently holding a 1-8 record, will face Kansas and Texas State twice over Sunday and Monday at the Bobcat Softball Stadium in San Marcos, Texas.
The tournament schedule includes games against Kansas on Sunday at 11 a.m. and Monday at 9:30 a.m., while matchups with Texas State are scheduled for Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and Monday at noon. Fans can watch the game against Texas State on Sunday or listen online via The Varsity Network.
In their recent outing at the Snowman: Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament hosted by Mississippi State, the Salukis faced tough competition from No. 19 Mississippi State, North Texas, and Georgia Tech, resulting in four losses. Despite these setbacks, players like Anna Carder and Jackie Lis showed strong performances with multiple RBIs and hits.
Carder continued her impressive season by hitting her second home run during the tournament's final game against North Texas. Lis also had notable achievements as she was named Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Player of the Week after batting .462 in Mississippi with significant contributions including two home runs.
Emily Williams received recognition as MVC Newcomer of the Week due to her solid performance with a .286 batting average and a slugging percentage of .714.
Historically, Southern Illinois has faced Kansas 11 times, trailing slightly in their all-time series with five wins to Kansas' six. Their last encounter saw Southern winning 5-2 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in 2023. Against Texas State, they have split their previous four meetings evenly.
