The Southern Illinois University (SIU) women's basketball team is set to host the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) on Sunday for the "SIH Blackout Cancer Game" at the Banterra Center. The game will begin at 2 p.m., with coverage available on ESPN+ featuring Dominic Hoscher and Saluki Hall of Famer Jamaal Tatum, and radio commentary by Larry Larson on NewsRadio WJPF 107.9 FM.
In this special event, SIU players will wear black and pink jerseys displaying the names of donating fans. Currently, SIU holds a record of 4-18 overall and 2-11 in conference play, ranking them 11th in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). Their recent game ended in an 83-48 loss to Missouri State.
Gift Uchenna has been named MVC Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time this season, averaging impressive stats across recent games. Uchenna leads various categories both within the conference and nationally. Meanwhile, Kayla Cooper has improved her performance significantly over recent games.
The upcoming match against UIC presents a challenging opportunity for SIU as they aim to improve their standings. UIC enters with a conference record of 6-7 and an overall record of 9-13. In their last outing, UIC fell to Valparaiso with a score of 60-51.
Historically, SIU has had success against UIC with a series record of 13-6. This meeting will be their only encounter during this regular season.
