Southern Illinois University's softball team faced a challenging day at the 2025 Snowman: Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament, held at Nusz Park in Starkville, Mississippi. The Salukis played two games on Friday against North Texas and Georgia Tech, resulting in losses for both matches.
In the first game against North Texas, Southern Illinois narrowly lost with a score of 4-3. Anna Carder made a significant impact by hitting a two-run double in the fifth inning. Amanda Knutson also contributed with an RBI, while Charley Pursley, Emma Austin, and Maleah Blomenkamp added hits to the team's efforts. Despite these contributions, North Texas took advantage of an error by SIU to secure their win.
The second game against Georgia Tech was more intense, ending with a 12-8 loss for Southern Illinois. Jackie Lis had an impressive performance at the plate with four hits and four RBIs from two home runs. Carder and Emily Williams each added two RBIs to the scoreboard as well. Although Jordan Stuessy delivered a solid pitching performance without allowing any earned runs over 3.1 innings, errors and missed opportunities allowed Georgia Tech to maintain their lead throughout the game.
The Salukis will have another chance to face North Texas on Saturday morning as they conclude their participation in The Snowman Tournament.
