The Southern Illinois University (SIU) women's basketball team faced a tough challenge against Missouri State, resulting in an 83-48 defeat on Thursday night. This loss adds to SIU's current record of 4-18 overall and 2-11 in conference play.

Missouri State showcased strong shooting skills, achieving a field-goal percentage of 49.3%, a three-point percentage of 50.0%, and converting 63.6% of their free throws. In contrast, SIU struggled offensively with a field-goal percentage of 38.9%, hitting only 13.3% from beyond the arc, and making four out of eight free throws.

The Lady Bears capitalized on SIU's errors by forcing 21 turnovers and scoring 24 points as a result. Despite these challenges, SIU managed to score most of their points inside the paint, contributing to their total of 48 points.

Gift Uchenna was notable for her performance, securing her 16th double-double this season with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks. Isabella Palmqvist also contributed with another 11 points.

Missouri State took control early in the game by leading the first quarter with a score of 26-14. They maintained consistent scoring throughout the first three quarters, shooting at least 50% from both the field and three-point range during those periods.

SIU struggled to keep pace, scoring no more than 15 points in any quarter and only six in the third quarter alone. After an initial shooting success rate of 60% in the first quarter, they fell to just 34% for the remainder of the game.

The Salukis will look to rebound as they finish their four-game homestand against UIC on Sunday at the SIH Blackout Cancer Game scheduled for a start time at 2 p.m.
