FOIA Request to Williamson County Clerk Regarding 2025 Consolidated Elections Candidates on January 14, 2025.
We at the Carbondale Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Williamson County Clerk. The request was made for records in electronic format containing a list of candidates running for the 2025 Consolidated Elections.
The requested information includes the candidate's name, the date they filed their candidacy, and the office they are running for. As a media organization, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await response from the Williamson County Clerk's office and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
