City of Genoa City Council met Dec. 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Brust called the meeting of the City Council to order at 6:42pm followed by roll call. Aldermen Wesner, Freund, Stage, Braheny, and Roca were present. Aldermen Pulley, Winter, and Hughes were absent. Quorum present.

Mayor Brust led the pledge of allegiance.

CONSENT AGENDA

Alderman Stage made a motion to approve of items 1-2 within the consent agenda, seconded by Alderman Roca. No further discussion. Aldermen Wesner, Freund, Stage, Braheny, and Roca voted yes. Motion carried.

1. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE NOVEMBER 20, 2024, CITY COUNCIL MEETING

2. APPROVAL OF THE ACCOUNTS PAYABLES DATED NOVEMBER 30, 2024

NEW BUSINESS:

APPROVE AN ORDINANCE LEVYING TAXES FOR ALL CORPORATE PURPOSES FOR THE CITY OF GENOA, DEKALB COUNTY, ILLINOIS, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR COMMENCING ON THE 1ST DAY OF MAY 2024, AND ENDING ON THE 30TH DAY OF APRIL 2025

Alderman Wesner made a motion to approve the ordinance, seconded by Alderman Roca. No further discussion. Alderman Wesner, Freund, Stage, Braheny, and Roca voted yes. Motion carried.

APPROVE AN ORDINANCE LEVYING SPECIAL SERVICE AREA PROPERTY TAXES FOR THE SPECIAL SERVICES TO BE PROVIDED IN RIVER BEND SPECIAL SERVICE AREA IN THE CITY OF GENOA, DEKALB COUNTY, ILLINOIS FOR THE FISCAL YEAR COMMENCING ON THE 1ST DAY OF MAY 2024, AND ENDING ON THE 30TH DAY OF APRIL 2025

Alderman Stage made a motion to approve the ordinance, seconded by Alderman Roca. No further discussion. Alderman Wesner, Freund, Stage, Braheny, and Roca voted yes. Motion carried.

Alderman Braheny made a motion to approve the ordinance, seconded by Alderman Wesner. No further discussion. Alderman Wesner, Freund, Stage, Braheny, and Roca voted yes. Motion carried.

APPROVE AN ORDINANCE LEVYING SPECIAL SERVICE ARE PROPERTY TAXES FOR THE SPECIAL SERVICES TO BE PROVIDED IN DERBY ESTATES SPECIAL SERVICE AREA IN THE CITY OF GENOA, DEKALB COUNTY, ILLINOIS FOR THE FISCAL YEAR COMMENCING ON THE 1ST DAY OF MAY 2024, AND ENDING ON THE 30TH DAY OF APRIL 2025

Alderman Wesner made a motion to approve the ordinance, seconded by Alderman Braheny. No further discussion. Alderman Wesner, Freund, Stage, Braheny, and Roca voted yes. Motion carried.

APPROVE AN ORDINANCE ABATING THE TAX HERETOFORE LEVIED FOR THE YEAR 2024 TO PAY THE PRINCIPAL AND INTEREST ON $2,500,000 GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS, SERIES 2020 OF THE CITY OF GENOA, ILLINOIS Alderman Braheny made a motion to approve the ordinance, seconded by Alderman Roca. No further discussion. Alderman Wesner, Freund, Stage, Braheny, and Roca voted yes. Motion carried.

DEPARTMENT REPORTS:

FINANCE:

Finance Director Tures announced that the six-month budget overview will be done soon and will be presented at the next council meeting.

ADMINISTRATIVE:

City Administrator Seguss announced some upcoming things happening such as a plan commission meeting, UDO updates, and the six-month budget overview. There will also be an annual report from staff presented at the next council meeting.

POLICE:

Chief Hathcoat gave an update on the calls for service, traffic stops, and incident reports that the department has had. He also announced the two fundraisers coming up, the Main Street Bar and Grill fundraiser and Shop with a Cop.

MAYOR:

Mayor Brust announced Celebrate the Season happening Friday. He also mentioned to the aldermen to be talking to residents in their wards about improvements throughout the city that they would like to see as they begin to work on the budget for the next year.

Motion to adjourn the meeting of the City Council was made by Alderman Wesner, seconded by Alderman Roca. Voice vote was taken, all voted yes. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:52pm.
