Alex Santiago from the Southern Illinois swimming and diving team has been recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) as Men's Swimmer of the Week. This marks the third time this season that Santiago has received this accolade.
Santiago's recent performance at the Purdue Invitational was notable, where he secured four first-place finishes in the "A" finals. He excelled in events including the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle, and 200-yard freestyle relay. During these competitions, Santiago set both an MVC and program record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 42.32 seconds.
Additionally, Santiago achieved NCAA "B" standards in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle events.
