The Southern Illinois men's swimming and diving team concluded the third day of the MAC Championship in third place with 428.5 points. The current standings show Miami (OH) leading with 497 points, followed by Missouri State with 468.5 points. UIC is in fourth place with 314 points, while Ball State, Evansville, and Valparaiso have accumulated 275, 170, and 97 points respectively.
During the preliminary session, the Salukis had a strong start. Jack Khrypunov achieved first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 46.32, breaking a pool record set in 2022. Alex Santiago secured third place in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:37.38, and Benedek Andor also took third place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.35. Jered Moore topped the last preliminary event by finishing first in the 100-yard backstroke at 46.91.
In the finals session, Southern Illinois achieved two first-place victories. Alex Santiago won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:36.63. The relay team consisting of Alex Santiago, Donat Csuvarszki, Nicolas Lanuza, and Benedek Andor claimed victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a finish time of 1:18.00.
Jack Khrypunov finished second in the finals for the 100-yard butterfly at a time of 46.48, closely followed by teammate Nicolas Lanuza who came third at 47.43.
The final day of competition will take place on Friday, March 8th starting at 10:30 a.m., Central Time for preliminaries and continuing at 6 p.m., Central Time for finals. The events can be streamed live on the MAC website.
