Southern Illinois women lead after day one against Missouri State

The Southern Illinois swimming and diving team concluded the first day of their dual meet against Missouri State. The women's team leads with a score of 140-46, while the men's team trails at 98-69.

The women's team achieved seven first-place finishes. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, two Southern Illinois teams secured top-three positions, with Masha Zhukova, Susana Hernandez, Zaria Terry, and Celia Pulido taking first place. The Salukis dominated the 400-yard medley relay as well, with Celia Pulido, Olivia Herron, Bea Padron, and Susana Hernandez leading.

In individual events, the Salukis excelled in three categories. Olivia Herron claimed victory in both the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard breaststroke. Bea Padron won the 500-yard freestyle event. Celia Pulido finished first in the 200-yard backstroke, while Susana Hernandez took first place in the 100-yard freestyle.

On the men's side, they started strong in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Aj Terry, Will Huggins, Donat Csuvarszki, and Alex Santiago achieved a time of 1:21.84 to secure first place. Alex Cimera earned second place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:51.96. Joshua Aceves also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle event. Alex Santiago clinched first place in the men's 100-yard freestyle with a finishing time of 45.21.

The competition will continue on Saturday at Carbondale for day two of this dual meet against Missouri State.
